Who Made my Artwork? Meet Rowan of Little Rowan Redhead

I am a printmaker, painter, illustrator and teacher. Originally from NZ, I live in Sydney’s Inner West with my husband, two daughters and a bolshy cattle dog. I set up Little Rowan Redhead mid-2016 and have said YES to everything since then in order to learn and grow the business.

I recently sat down with the other Team Leaders and we thought we should share a little bit more about what makes us tick and find out WHO is behind the brands….

…here’s some quick-fire questions I asked Rowan of Little Rowan Redhead.

FAV podcast? ABC Conversations, Serial and This American Life

Why do you hand make? Because I have to.

Favourite thing about running your own business? Flexibility – it enables me to be present for my daughters.

Biggest inspiration? My family – cliched and corny but true

Fav coffee shop in Sydney / or fav shop?Art on King

What handmade means to you? Love, time, care, effort, skill, thought

Song that motivates you the most? Dreaming my dreams by the Cranberries

Best piece if advice you can give to other makers?Say yes to things that scare you

I often get whether there is more than one artist represented by Little Rowan Redhead because my work includes linoprints, watercolour art prints and digital art. The truth is that I can’t stay in one medium – I get bored! The process of moving between printmaking, illustration and painting keeps me engaged and motivated and by extension, keeps my work fresh and dynamic. Antipodean flora and fauna always inspires me but I also have a penchant for patterns and pop art.
