Frances Island is a Sydney-based beret and hat brand with a unique creative vision. Since 2013, the founder Frances has been designing her eponymous line of designs and handmade berets and now branching out to fashionable hats that can’t be found elsewhere. She brings her care in craft and her playful imagination to every design.
Frances Island berets are made with Australian wool and quality is a focus by using just the right quantity of wool for thickness and carefully selecting from the softest wool for a comfortable gentler fabric and fit. The handmade collections are full of imagination and made with a variety of handmade techniques; hand worked details with a needling felting process, hand-sewn sequin pearls to detailed embroidery design.
The founder Frances, started hand-making berets by wool felt needling in 2013. After stuck with an ennui that led her ever-present desire to find freedom. She threw herself head first into a full-time business. And in 2020, her bold move started the birth of the Frances Island brand—a metaphoric island for self-expression, freedom and imagination for all—where Frances’ abiding desire for visitors to express their own individuality and style. From her small studio, Frances sources the finest materials and couples her technical and creative skills to break the mould of a traditional hat brand, explore one-of-a-kind hats that challenge conventions and bring people joy.
