Gill Cameron is a Mural artist and Illustrator based in Bondi, Australia. Her brand, Line for a Walk started as a personal project to create art for herself and has evolved to where it is today. After many years working to brief in the textile industry Gill embraced the idea of painting freely and discovered a renewed passion to create art everyday. She used this freedom to experiment, to evolve her style and to capture the essence of living by the sea in her artwork.
Inspiration for Gill’s art (and home) comes from mid century figurative and graphic artists such as Paul Thurlby and David Hockney. She is fascinated by the fluid nature of watercolour and uses its unpredictable nature to encapsulate her images of the sea, ocean pools, the beach and it’s characters, giving them depth and bringing them to life. Pushing boundaries in this medium, Gill tests herself and the ink by making it very liquid and using it’s spontaneity, in several layers, to create the backgrounds for her artworks. Contrasting this, her love form and structure is evident in the straight lines and graphic patterns of her compositions and the characters in her art. The challenge lies in the juxtaposition between these elements.
Under her brand, Line for a Walk Gill sells original artworks, limited edition prints, gift cards and wrap. Gill also works closely with various clients to create large scale mural artworks, custom illustrations and designs for their brands in her signature watercolour style.
Gill has painted two murals on the Bondi Sea Wall and has been commissioned to create several murals of her ‘swimming girls’ in private homes and was part of the Perry Lane art project in 2018.
