Splendid Wren Ceramics 1 - Catherine Field

More about Splendid Wren Ceramics

Catherine Field, from Bondi Beach, Australia, is the maker behind the Splendid Wren Ceramics range of handmade homewares.

With a focus on functional simplicity, the pieces are made using traditional handbuilding techniques from a range of stoneware clays. Each piece is bisque fired to 1000 degrees before being glazed. The glazed piece is then fired again to 1260 degrees. She is drawn to natural, earthy glazes and a neutral colour palette inspired by nature.

Like all good things, this process takes time. The high-fired stoneware temperatures ensure durability for everyday use.

No two pieces of Splendid Wren Ceramics are the same, yet they fit organically together. You may notice a finger print or makers mark reminding you of its uniqueness.

Catherine works out of her studio at Claypool in Sydney’s Botany where she also runs one-on-one and group workshops. Her work is available at such stockists as Commune Bondi, Orchard Street, We Are Mindful, Paperbark Camp and also on her website.

Her work has appeared in: Australian Country Style, Gourmet Traveller, Belle Magazine, Inside Out Magazine, The Weekend Australian, House & Garden, Real Living, Conde Nast Traveller and on the cover of Donna Hay ‘Weeklight’ cookbook. It was also exhibited as part of the Australian Country Table exhibition 2021 at Michael Reid Murrurundi.
